To our
generous supporters,
In
October, Junior Achievement of British
Columbia released our 2007-2008
Annual Report. This is
our opportunity to reflect on the past year
and provide our stakeholders with detail
of JABC's activities. As I read
through this year's report, I am amazed
at how much Junior Achievement has
accomplished. I acknowledge
none of it would have been
possible without the generosity of
supporters like you.
On behalf of all of us at Junior Achievement
of British Columbia, I would like to express my
sincere thanks for guiding and inspiring the
young people of our province. You
are part of a remarkable team made
up of teachers, volunteers, donors, and
community partners. I encourage you to
download this year's Annual
Report and take pride in your
contribution. Sincerely,
 Jan

JA: Bridging the Talent Gap
According to a recent
Business in Vancouver Article, 52% of
graduates are not qualified to fill job
openings.
 It is the question
asked in board rooms across British
Columbia -- who will lead our province into
economic prosperity? With an increasing
labour shortage and the current skills and
experience gap, many companies are at a loss
as how to recruit new talent.
Right now in BC, there is nothing more
critical than to teach a young person the basics
of business and help them build a vision of future
successes. Junior Achievement provides this
opportunity.
Last year over 900 JA volunteers around BC
partnered with educators and donors to
inspire young people and help prepare them for the
future. Now is the time for all of us to step up
and be part of the solution. Through
mentorship and corporate partnerships, Junior
Achievement can continue to be the direct link
between business and
education. |

Youth
Insights
New Student Surveys were piloted in as many
JA classes as possible in May and June 2008;
almost 1000 students were surveyed. Here are some
highlights that speak to the powerful, positive
difference JA programs make to BC's young people
thanks to your support.
Across all programs, of all the
students surveyed
- 7 out of
10 told us JA programs helped them feel
more confident about their
future.
In our Elementary School Business
Basics programs (Grades 5-7):
- 9 out of
10 told us they learned something new about
business
In our Economics of Staying in School
program (now Economics for Success) (Grades 9
&10):
- 8 out of
10 told us the program gave them a better
understanding of how the choices they make today
will impact their
future
In our High School Programs (Grades 11
& 12), as a result of the
program:
- 7 out of
10 of students told us they were more
likely to consider a career in
business

I am also a JA
donor. Like you, I have been in the
classroom and have seen first hand the amazing
impact JA programs have on our youth. I hope
you will also consider making a donation so that
as many students as possible can participate in
these important business
education programs.
Just $40
enables one student to
participate. Please go on-line and make a one time
gift or join the Monthly Giving Program.
