Dear friends,

I reflect back on the last year with a great deal of pride and gratitude to all those who contributed to our success. With your help, we delivered over 1000 programs and reached close to 30,000 students throughout BC. On behalf of the Board and staff, I would like to say thank you to our volunteers, teachers and donors that have helped make this year so outstanding.

Volunteers are the fabric of our community. You are responsible for special projects and activities that enrich our society. Next year, JABC plans to revitalize our volunteer program so we can engage, support and thank the individuals who directly impact young people. Please take 2 minutes to complete our Volunteer Survey below so we can better serve your needs.

We believe it is vital for the success of our programs that students have access to business people.  As volunteers, you not only teach business education, you also help to build strong citizens, future volunteers, and a skilled workforce.

Again, thank you to all our supporters for making Junior Achievement so relevant in your communities.  I wish all of you a happy and safe summer!

Sincerely,

Enviromentally focused After-School program takes home Student Venture of the Year Award

Phil Lehn, Vice President, Commercial Banking for CIBC (Front, Right), presented student company GG Go Green with the CIBC Student Venture of the year award.

Junior Achievement of British Columbia (JABC) is pleased to announce 'GG Go Green' has won the coveted 2009 CIBC Student Venture of the Year Award.

The company, made up of students from Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey and New Westminster, designed stainless steel water bottles to promote consumer awareness of environmental damage caused by plastic containers.  Members of 'GG Go Green' chose to re-invest their salaries and commissions back into 'GG Go Green' to maximize both the return to their shareholders and the donation made to the charity 'Friends of the Earth'. The group also took home the awards for Environmental Stewardship and Outstanding Shareholder's Report.

The awards were presented at the "Celebrate JA!" event on June 10, held at SFU, Segal Graduate School of Business in downtown Vancouver.  Over 50 students were honoured at the reception for their outstanding performance, creativity, and demonstration of business acumen.

In April, the Province announced it would invest $1 Million in Junior Achievement of British Columbia (JABC) to expand entrepreneurship and business skills training in schools throughout BC.

JABC currently delivers business education programs to about 30,000 students in 45 of BC's 60 school districts. In 2006, JABC received $2 million from the Province and intends to use this additional funding to further expand our reach into rural and urban areas.

As well as expanding the scope of JABC programs, the provincial funding will help maintain and develop collaborations with schools, school districts, chambers of commerce and other business organizations, whose volunteer and financial support help sustain our growth.

I'm a JA Volunteer...

I am also a JA donor.  Like you, I have been in the classroom and have seen first hand the amazing impact JA programs have on our youth.  I hope you will also consider making a donation so that as many students as possible can participate in these important business education programs.

Just $40 enables one student to participate.  Please go on-line and make a one time gift or join the Monthly Giving Program.
